trip to heart of asia - taiwan (part 2) : tamsui, jiantan
Wednesday, 14 March 2012

our accomdation at taipei city was ecfa hotel, which is quite near (7min walk) from ximen station! anyway this is the accomdation that we hv to stay throughout for the rest of the trip. the room wasnt that big for two of us and our two huge luggage, but its still manageable and pretty cosy afterall. what surprised me and darling was that this hv this complimentary condom at the bedside and this very 'special channel 82'! =D

as it was free and easy accordingly to the tour package schedule after the hotel check-in, we made our our way to tamsui (淡水) by the mrt. tamsui is a sea-side district and is named after the tamsui river which also means "fresh water". i personally felt that tamsui is a slower pace area, perhaps because people are strolling and eating all the local specialties of tamsui oldstreet and waterfront (淡水老街). we did a bit of shopping (darling bought the '"iron eggs" (鐵蛋) and some Fish crisps (魚酥) back to sin). we also tried this a-gei (阿給) which is a deep fried tofu that have been stuff with flavoured crystal noodles and sealed with fish paste. another delicious and our favourite favourite favourite “small eat” were bird eggs wrapped up with small ikan bilis on a stick, which was then cooked with the same style as tacopachi!! its superb sinful but too hard to even resist!! hahahaha!!

the next destination on our list was jiantan (劍潭). we took this free shuttle bus to the nearby shopping mall called miramar shopping mall that have this super big scale ferris wheel. and pls do not be fool by the name of the station, in fact this is the nearest mrt station to shilin night market (士林夜市). anyway, according to the train station customer service (and darling) , the market had been shifted from the last time she visited. some special delicacies are the super huge size chicken cutlet, coffin bread, sausages (again!), but we did not try the oyster omlette as both of us don't eat oyster afterall! in my opinion, most taiwanese would not say that this is the best night market in taiwan or taipei, but it's definitely one of the most famous and heavily advertised ones. this is my first time to taiwan, so visiting shilin is like quite a must, but the next time i might skip it for other night market instead! =)
