trip to heart of asia - taiwan (part 5) : taipei
Sunday, 18 March 2012
on the first of 2012, we continued our taipei trip, being free and easy! on our planned itnerary, we were supposed to visit jay chou cafe (mr. J 義法廚房II aka mr. J italian-french restaurant II) at the taipei medical university, but it was closed due to the new year holiday, but lucky us, it will open for business on the last day of our trip, so we actually revisit the cafe and managed to go in (usually it require reservation and we finally gotten a table after much persuade with the waitress). well, we were so busy taking pictures, especially with the piano that was shown in the movie! and as for the food, it was a indeed a so-so. anyway, we bought a couple of souvenirs from the shop itself, afterall me and darling are great fans of his!
next highlight was the taipei 101 observatory that was super packed with tourists, and we decided to give up the long queue as i feel its a total waste of time, hence we played with luck again, and we revisit the place on the last day of our trip too. anyway, its indeed a eye opener standing on the 88th floor, looking down at the whole taiwan. however im kinda of upset, disappointed that its no longer the no.1 tallest building in the world. and that new no.1 tallest building in dubai, i am not even sure if i will ever visit it. anyway, back to it, it only took 45sec of the lift from the top of the building to the ground floor and i would call that truly amazing!
another attraction (actually its a cafe!) that we visited was the hello kitty theme restaurant (hello kitty sweets餐廳) . although we are not a big fans of hello kitty, but we dont mind feeling so pinky for a while, and so we shared a main course dinner and i had a tiramisu dessert (with hello kitty face on it). the food was plenty tasty, which was a surprise as we thought such theme shop serve pretty lousy food. oh yeah, how can we forget about the hello kitty theme loo? hahaha. darling bought the camera in to take some nice pictures too!
national palace museum (國立故宮博物院) was also one of the places i placed it in my itnerary to visit. both me and darling wasnt the arty farty kind of ppl around, however this museum was in the top5 museum list in the world with over 600k pieces of ancient chinese artifacts and artworks. due to the insufficient space to put on display all the artifacts, the museum underwent renovations many times and in 2001, the museum underwent a major $21-million-dollar renovation revamping the museum to make it more spacious and modern. it was accelerated in 2002, during which about two-thirds of the museum section was closed. The museum reopened on christmas day 2006, after a long ten-year renovation. the displays are rotated once every three months, which means 60,000 pieces can be viewed in a year and it would take nearly 12 years to see them all. too bad, no pictures are allowed in the museum!
last but not least, in taiwan, its food and more food!! we had ay-chung flour rice noodle (阿宗麵線). we tried the kfc, as darling were their super fans of the thai-lemon chicken drumstick! we had their ding tai feng too, which was not quite similar to the local one. and i believed we enjoyed the most was the solid mala yuanyang hot pot (馬辣鴛鴦火鍋). their freeflow dessert was from movenpick and haagen dazs. and its also the first time i tried their taiwan beer! and for the bubble teas, we tried the koi and sharetea respectively!
guess both of us enjoyed this taiwan trip pretty alot, great food and some quality loots from shopping. in fact, the weather was juz nice too, there wasnt too much rain, which made travelling much easier. i believe darling wont mind going taiwan again in another season, especially during summer, so that she can grab more shopping loot. hahahaa!
taiwan. truly heart of asia! =)Labels: fun, holiday, makan, shopping, taiwan
