Bangkok trip - 14 Nov - 17 Nov 2013

"Sawadeekep"! Here we come (finally)!! Long story on why we couldn't come earlier so not going to talk about it. My virgin trip to Bangkok and I'm glad we managed to grab good deals on the airfare at only $100++. It's all worth it for waking up early on a weekday. Although the timing for Scoot isn't that perfect but it's just a short getaway so we think a 4d3n is good enough. And also this is first trip via Scoot, we are happy that we got the upgraded seat (bigger leg space), I guess travelling with my dear is always lucky :)

When we reached Bangkok, it was pouring heavily and upon reaching our hotel, the taxi driver missed the hotel turn in and simply drop us off at a open area and that's not all, he doesn't have small change and I'm felt we are being forced to give him extra. What a start to our journey. However that doesn't stop us from looking forward to rest of the trip. After a quick check in, we proceed to find a place for dinner (reaching 9pm++) and sadly most restaurant are closed by then till we find KFC!! Not a perfect meal to start with but doesn't have a choice so we decided to grab snacks on our way back. Our first stop is called Big C where it's like Giant selling all sorts of things, u name it, they got it! Found my new love on snack : chicken favoured coated peanuts by Koh-kae. How I wished I have bought a few more tin back. Forgot to mention that Big C closed at midnight or it's 24-hrs so it's the best place to go. After we are done, we head out to the street for food! We had grilled prawn stick, sweet corn and quail eggs with light sauce (my favourite) and of course coconut and orange juice (which we drink almost everyday) Super hungry at this point when I'm drafting this blog!

I can say we achieved a lot on Day 2 as we travelled to many places. First we had to queue at 8am plus for the famous wanton mee which I think it's nice but the serving is pathetic small which we later had quail eggs (again), bird nest to fill up our 3/4 empty stomach. Dear managed to book massage at Divana massage & spa that has good review and as always we took the package that has the scrub and massage. As this is the first Time I had a traditional Thai massage in Thailand, I think it's still not bad (till I realised next day I had bruises, maybe used too much strength!) And I'm surprised my silly dear can endure the pain but on n off I heard her telling the person to softer. Lolz.. Tough appearance but soft meat! After the wonderful rest n relax, we proceed to have a late lunch at Fuji Jap restaurant. Now I understand why people always say you can eat like a king in Bangkok as the food is really dirt cheap esp jap food. We ordered 2 main dish and 3 side dish and cost around 20!! Our second stop is the rooftop bar called Dome at state Tower Lebua hotel, one of the scene from hangover is filmed here so Dear would like to go. It's a good thing that we took cab there as it's not that accessible and due to the heavy traffic, we overrun the time by a little and it's almost dark when we reached. We quickly took a few shots of the surrounding before it turned dark. We spent around 30mins after ordering the famous hangover drink and proceed to our final stop : Asiatique The Riverfront. Both of us quite like the place as it's a lookalike Clarke quay but better with more shops and more food outlets. We went to a restaurant called Yum Saap for our first Thai food and it's super good n cheap. Over there, I had the best drink ever coconut frost and dear's favourite ice blend and once again it's dirt cheap at $512 baht where we ordered 3 drinks and 5 dishes. We only managed to shop for around an hour and took the last ferry back to city.

It's another exciting (happy/lucky) day for us as I'm finally here at the famous Jatuchak Market where everyone says it's a must visit place in Bkk. As we started the day early and most of the shops are not open so we had to wander around the lanes and wait patiently. I finally understand why they say u need to spent a day here as there are thousand of shops and we only had 2hours. I guess the weather is cooling in Nov13 so Dear and I enjoyed wandering around slowly. We had our first snack for the day which is grilled pork. I'm surprised Dear will eat with me as I thought she doesn't really dare to eat street food but the smell is simply too hard to resist and indeed it's super juicy and tasty. Leaving there, we proceed to have our first expensive lunch : Chinese food at Xin Tian De. The Peking duck is indeed delicious where the skin is crispy but the rest of the food is normal and the most disappointing thing is the duck meat. Both of us find it too hard to chew. Even though we order 5 dishes but the price is only S$90 which I think it's cheaper than in sin. As I'm not a holy person but Dear was saying its a must to visit 四面佛 and it's walking distance from our dining place so we went there after lunch. As always, the smoke is choking my eyes but good thing is it's open area so minimise the damage. After praying, we moved on to nearby malls but I guess I prefer places like platinum mall or Jatuchek where we can bargain the price and make the item more worth it. Lolz. Our final stop for the day is Chocolate Ville. It's a special programme by my Dear saying that it's the "in thing" so we must visit this place. Actually for this whole trip, I felt everything is in a rush so maybe we could skip some places if possible but luckily Dear stick to her itinerary so we didn't miss this wonderful place out. Chocolate Ville is located outside the city of Bkk so the whole journey took us around 30-45mins. The whole place look like a small British town with a light house and only one restaurant. No wonder Dear took the effort to make a reservation as I believe if we were to walk in, we might need to wait for an hour plus. After dinner, we took a stroll in the Ville and took many nice shots. Thanks Dear for making this happen. The night didn't end here as on our way back to Siam Square, I received message from my sis that we won 1st prize for 4d for the first time in our life and it's our room number 1115 (but open 5111). We are totally speechless and happy about the winning and decided to make a special trip back to 四面佛 to give thanks. After one whole day of walking, we decided to pamper ourselves for a foot massage. As the shop is located below our hotel therefore we only had to wait for 15mins. But I'm so disappointed with the foot massage as I felt it's just rubbing my leg hence I don't feel any massage at all whereas Dear's massage is better.

As we took the night flight, we had ample time for our last activity. But before that we had our last meal in Bkk which is MK restaurant. We had that in singapore but the cost is steep so I'm glad I can eat the famous duck for the last time before we depart. While in singapore, we are hook to indoor escape game where we have to solve many quiz and riddles and eventually find the key to get out of the room. Till now we had yet successfully escape any rooms so we decided to try this game in Bkk. However we tried something different, instead of escaping from a locked room, we want to try solving puzzle outside (something like running man) and eventually get the answer to stop a bomb. The place that we need to go is the nearby mall called Terminal 21 and we had only 1.5hrs to solve the clue. Well, Dear solve most of the clue and finally we manage to win the game!! I'm starting to like Bkk as it's the first place we won not one but two things here. Overall I guess we enjoyed this trip as everything went off smoothly and feeling lucky :)

*So looking forward to Bkk for the second time in Aug 2014 though with my mum this time and also celebrating my bday and 1st anniversary of saying Yes. Hope our luck continues...

Thanks Dear for preparing the itineray. <3 <3 <3 !!
